A germplasm collection trip was performed in the spring of 1996 in cooperation with the U.S.G.A. MidAtlantic regional director Stan Zontek and agronomist Keith Happ and I visited 13 golf courses in five days in the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware. Approximately 1,111 samples were collected from this specific trip. These samples along with other samples collected from central and western Pennsylvania were propagated into 4 inch pots containing 60-40 greens mix and are being maintained in the greenhouse. In the spring of 1997, the approximately 1,600 strains in total will be transplanted to the experimental research green on 1 ft centers and maintained at 1/8 inch mowing height. Their vegetative spread and turf quality will begin to be assessed in 1997.
